Herbal Medicine

Traditional Chinese herbal medicine and western herbal therapy are excellent alternatives to the use of many conventional chemical drugs. Plant medicine is the origin from where most drugs were developed, and this approach often works synergistically with the body’s natural defense mechanisms. Herbal medications are typically safer and can be more effective in the treatment of many medical conditions, especially in the management of chronic disease.

Cancer Support

Cancer rates are rising in our animal companions as well as in within our human society. This is complex condition that affects us physically and emotionally. Many pet parents struggle with decisions regarding treatments and/or costs of conventional cancer therapy options. Improving and supporting quality of life is our primary focus. This ancient therapy is still used today! And is effective for humans and animals in the treatment of a variety of disorders and supporting the body to rebalance and heal. Acupuncture uses small, thin, flexible needles inserted at particular points to stimulate the body to release neurotransmitters and hormones into the bloodstream. These biochemical and energetic responses assist the body in general healing, pain relief and normalizing organ function.

Laser Therapy

Low level (cold) lasers are a cutting edge therapy, which is gaining favor in both human and veterinary medicine. This non-invasive therapy has numerous clinical studies demonstrating its safety and efficacy. These types of lasers work through the principle of “photochemistry”, modulating biochemical reactions via the absorption of photons or light. Laser therapy is used to reduce pain and inflammation and promote tissue healing. This makes laser therapy useful for many conditions including injuries, arthritis, skin disease, wound healing, post-operative surgical healing and internal medicine conditions.

Chiropractic with Dr. Mindy Mar

Chiropractic is a non-invasive technique formed from the relationship of the nervous system to the spinal cord. Correction of subluxations (improper alignment between two bones) allows the nervous system to function at an optimal level. A chiropractic adjustment is made by hand or using an adjusting instrument.

Chiropractic care focuses on the role of the spine and nervous system in maintaining good health. Chiropractic adjustments aim to restore optimal range of motion and nerve function, allowing the body to self-regulate and heal. Adjustment techniques can be done manually or with the use of a small “activator” tool which is very safe and gentle. This latter technique is termed VOM, or Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation, and is a very useful modality for both dogs & cats.

Homeopathy is the second most utilized form of alternative medicine worldwide. This modality is based on the theory of “like heals like”, with homeopathic remedies aiming to assist the body to heal itself rather than to suppress or treat symptoms. Homeopathic remedies are made from organic substances that have been extremely diluted, making them a very safe alternative or adjunct to drugs and medications.

Essential Oil Therapy

Therapeutic grade essential oils provide both physical and emotional benefits. These plantderived oils may be applied topically, inhaled (diffused) or ingested. Topical application and ingestion allow access to the blood stream and inhalation allows quick access to the respiratory system and also to the brain via the limbic system. Aromatherapy is useful but the therapeutic benefits go way beyond that!
